What are Gold karats and colours?

Gold is a beautiful and long lasting metal that has been used since ancient times and still stands as a symbol of quality and wealth.

Karat

Gold is marked by its “karat”. This refers to the quantity of pure gold that is in each gram. For example, 24K is pure gold and 14K is 14 parts of pure gold in every 24 grams of metal.

Colour

All pure gold is a yellow colour, but by alloying gold with other metals we can create different colours.

Yellow Gold – silver & copper
Rose Gold – copper
White Gold – palladium, platinum

* Sustainably sourced Gold.

What is Turquoise Patina Copper?

The Turquoise Patina I use is a hand-made natural patina on Copper. The colour is produced from the reaction between the copper jewellery and the vapours of sea salts and ammonias (like vinegar). The effect is similar to the green copper roofs on the parliament buildings in Ottawa, or the blue copper on the buildings by the ocean in Nova Scotia.

Additionally I buff on a thin layer of conservator’s wax to add additional gloss and protection.

**This patina should avoid soap, water, and chemicals to maintain its dramatic colour.

What is Red Patina Copper?

Red patina on copper is the most durable patina that can be done on copper. It is a heat-treatment patina where the copper jewellery is heated to temperature and then quenched in cold water. This captures the bold and long-lasting red colour.

Additionally I buff on a thin layer of conservator’s wax to add gloss and protection.

**This patina should avoid soap, water, and chemicals to maintain its dramatic colour.

What is Black Patina Silver?

Black silver is a patina that creates a dark tarnish over the surface of the silver. I use this patina for a dark dramatic look or to emphasize line engravings and patterns done into silver. It is a great option for men's jewellery as there is no need for polishing and cleaning after purchase and it gives a edgy alternative look.

Additionally, I will buff on a thin layer of conservator’s wax to add additional gloss and protection to fully black surfaces.

**This patina should avoid soap, water, and chemicals to maintain its dramatic colour.

* Sustainably sourced silver.

What are Swarovski Crystal Pearls?

Swarovski is an Austrian company that makes high quality hand-cut crystal. The pearls used in my collections have a crystal core and a durable enamel coating to provide their luscious colours.

The pearls are made in Austria and are of very good quality, compared to what we often think of as "faux pearls".

Swarovski Crystal Pearls are quality crystal pearls.
