Custom Design: Bi-Pass Engagement Ring

When Shawn first came into the studio for a custom design consultation, he was looking to create a truly special engagement ring. He had been recommended to me by Megan and Stephen—for whom I had previously made a custom east-west radiant cut double band engagement ring—and it was such a joy to collaborate on another meaningful project for their circle.

We began the process by selecting the central stone. After going through various options and reviewing high-resolution videos together, Shawn selected a brilliant 1.87-carat marquise lab-grown diamond. Featuring exceptional D color and VVS2 clarity, this specific cut had specialized faceting to maximize light performance and give it an extraordinary sparkle to the diamond. Knowing from our initial chat that the ring wouldn't need to fit a traditional wedding band directly beneath it, we had complete creative freedom with the profile and structural flow of the engagement ring design.

Design

Once the diamond was ordered and received, I was able to moved on to the 3D digital modeling phase and develop a wave bypass setting tailored specifically to the gem's proportions. Once Shawn reviewed and approved the detailed CAD renderings, he chose 18K yellow gold for the band, perfectly complementing the crisp brilliance of the marquise diamond.

The Finished Ring

The final piece came together as a stunning balance of modern wave geometry and classic warmth. It has been absolute delight bringing Shawn's vision to life, and I could not be happier with how this custom piece turned out!
